I'm supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. Thanks to your support, my efforts, will help fund the therapies and treatments and help save lives today.

LLS's continued advancements over the years, are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled.

And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. They're even being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. LLS funded drugs are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

Please visit my Web site often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support!

Understanding Leukemia and Lymphoma: A No-Nonsense Guide

Friday 31st May
Hey there, folks! Today, we're diving into some heavy stuff—Leukemia and Lymphoma. These two terms might sound like they belong in a high-stakes medical drama, but they're real-life conditions affecting many people. So, let’s break it down in plain language, with a sprinkle of Urban Dictionary flair.

Leukemia: The Bloodstream Invader

Leukemia is basically when your blood cells go rogue. Your bone marrow, which is like the factory for your blood cells, starts churning out abnormal white blood cells. Think of it as if your best buddy started inviting a bunch of randoms to your house party without asking. These uninvited guests (the abnormal cells) overcrowd the place, making it hard for your legit friends (the normal cells) to enjoy the party. Symptoms can range from feeling super tired and weak (not just "Monday morning" tired) to bruising easily and getting sick more often.

Lymphoma: The Lymph Node Party Crasher

Lymphoma is like leukemia's cousin, but it focuses on your lymphatic system. Picture your lymph nodes as the bouncers of your immune system. Now, imagine some sketchy characters (abnormal lymphocytes) start taking over, making it harder for the bouncers to do their job. There are two main types: Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin's. Both mess with your body's ability to fight infections and can cause swollen lymph nodes, fever, and weight loss (not the good kind).

Treatment: Battling the Invaders

Dealing with leukemia and lymphoma is no joke. Treatments can include chemotherapy (like sending in the SWAT team), radiation therapy (think high-tech laser tag), and sometimes a bone marrow transplant (getting a whole new factory). It's a tough battle, but many people come out on top thanks to these medical advancements.

Wrapping It Up: Knowledge is Power

Understanding leukemia and lymphoma is the first step in fighting them. Whether you're dealing with these conditions yourself or supporting a loved one, knowing what’s up can make a huge difference. Stay informed, stay strong, and remember—science is on your side.
