'Andando El Camino' for A Cure

Together – taking on the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) “Walk 100 Miles in June” challenge – we are “Andando El Camino” (Walking the Path).

We are walking because we knew Emily Jordan (1991-1997). She was a dear friend and a wise-beyond-her-years teacher. Through Emily’s journey, we learned about LLS.

We are walking because - for the past 27 years – we have witnessed Emily’s parents – Bob & Terry Jordan – fiercely and passionately swim, bike, run, hike, climb, and voice progress toward the finish line of curing blood cancers.

We are walking because we remember the day our friend, Vanessa Witmer, was diagnosed with Leukemia. She was just a child. Vanessa - a recent UC Davis graduate - won the battle and now enjoys life to the fullest. She and her mom, Trish Dolan, have passionately and joyfully raced and raised for LLS over the years.

We are walking because we never got to meet our uncle’s/brother-in-law’s mother, Lory Lewis. Her lifetime preceded a cure.

We are walking because our friend and mentor was diagnosed with lymphoma. We hope that a cure may be discovered in his lifetime.

We are walking because it is likely we – and you - will know other loved ones who will be diagnosed. A cure must be found.

We are walking because we are grateful to be healthy and able to walk.

We are walking because LLS is on a path toward curing blood cancers through …

·       funding therapies and treatments responsible for doubling and tripling (in some cases even quadrupling!) blood cancer survival rates.

·       widening its scope over the years - not only helping blood cancer patients but also impacting treatment of patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers.

·       impacting – through clinical trials - a wide range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic, and prostate cancers.

·       funding drugs being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis.

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. You will not only be supporting LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

Please consider a personal donation – no amount is too small – and invite friends and family to make a donation!

Thank you for being a part of this “camino” (path) with us!
